Who fits the institute?

People who want to achieve a natural, american english accent with a focus on placement, pitch, breath, and vowels, and can do self-study but are looking for guidance and structure

Who should not join?

People who can self-study with the videos on the channel without additional guidance

What To expect

In addition to a workshop opportunities and a weekly 30-60 minute mastermind (8:30AM Tuesdays NEw York),  the institute currently has 4 main self-study modules:

1) Sentence concepts (stress, reductions, intonation)
48 minutes

2) major american english vowels
90 minutes

3) Core concepts (placement, pitch, breath, contrast)
103 minutes

4) problematic consonants
35 minutes


modules are based on videos from the fluent american and for word
youtube channels. upon completion, institute members will have a foundation for the concepts needed to sound natural in american english.

More on Conversation Club

Starting mid-january, the fluent american institute is hosting a conversation club weekly on mondays at 6pm new york for 30 minutes. class sizes are limited to the first 5 students to attend. to receive the most benefit from the class, it is recommended for students to be at least level b2 in english speaking + listening or higher (band 6.5+ ielts). at least 3 sessions are guaranteed per 5 weeks.

Miccau McClelland is a financial services professional with over two decades of experience. She has a passion for the arts, community, education, and financial well-being. She has been a personal finance educator at Columbus State Community College for the past eight years and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Ohio Dominican University. Miccau is well-known for her community support, leadership, and service. She believes in the power of storytelling to heal and transform and uses her writing to uplift marginalized voices and inspire necessary conversations. Recently, she made her literary debut as a contributing author of the newly published book, “The Fire from Her Crown.” Additionally, she is currently working on her freshman full-length literary collection, set to be released in 2026.

Talisha Holmes is a Columbus-based singer, songwriter, and performer who blends soul, jazz, folk, and rock into a genre-fluid sound.

 

Holmes has released multiple projects, including the EPs Blue Thought, Follow, and Right Into It, along with singles such as “Would U B Lost If U Found Urself With Me,” “America,” “This Institution” (with Topher James) and "He Won't Ever Let Me Go." 

 

In 2019, Holmes founded the Women of Color Discussion Group in Nashville, Tennessee - creating a body-affirming, sex-positive, and emotionally safe space for Black and Brown women to engage in conversations around sexuality, relationships, sexual and mental health, body image, empowerment, and mutual support.

 

Her work has been widely recognized. In 2022, she received the Unsung Hero Award for Outstanding Artist with Disabilities. She has been featured on the national television series Songs at the Center, appeared on WOSU’s Broad & High, and participated in The Columbus Foundation’s Songs for the Community series.

 

Holmes has also worked with the Columbus Literacy Council, supporting adult ESL learners by helping community members navigate enrollment and take their first steps toward confidence and fluency in English.

 

In 2025, Talisha Holmes was inducted into Who’s Who in Black Columbus, an honor recognizing individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the city’s cultural, civic, and professional landscape while uplifting the Black community.
